Recently, we came across Yoga with Adriene on YouTube after choosing to integrate more somatic practice (a sensational-based movement approach) into our routines. As a team of athletes, we understand that not only is cross-training vital to our training, but the combination of mind and body is essential to our overall well-being.

As described in Dancer Wellness part of the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science, yoga is one of the physical activities which provides an excellent way to achieve strong muscles and bones. It helps to improve balance, coordination, posture, and flexibility. All of which benefit treating chronic disease and pain. Regular yoga practice also allows reducing stress and anxiety while providing rest and recovery.

In Jim Carson’s, Relax into Yoga for Chronic Pain, it informs that” 1 in 3 adults in the U.S – more than 116 million people – experience chronic pain”, and as a result pain medication is prescribed every day to thousands of Americans. In a research study done in 2018 by the National Institute of Drug Abuse, it was found that approx. 115 people die of overdosing on opioids medication.

While yoga may provide an array of benefits, it may be challenging for individuals with chronic pain to find classes that are well suited for them.

Yoga with Adriene is a gentle yoga practice that invites an inclusive approach to find what feels good. Its easeful pace focuses on the unity of breath and body supporting the needs of the individual and their journey towards feeling good.
